Worship this Sunday, August 4th at 10 am will include the reading of the story of Jesus telling the rich man to “Be on your guard against all kinds of greed; for one’s life does not consist in the abundance of possessions;” scripture found in Luke 12:13-21 to be read by Mary Anne Deer. Rev. Cheryl Meachen’s sermon, entitled, “Appreciation is not Possession,” will explore our consumer culture, the tenth commandment: “Thou Shalt not Covet” and Jesus’ instruction that we not accumulate and store our treasure here on earth, but rather seek heavenly things. Holy Communion will be celebrated. The United Methodist Church uses grape juice and gluten free bread is available. You need not be a member to receive the bread of life at the Lord’s Table. It’s that time of year again! Join us for the Blueberry Festival at First United Methodist Church, Brattleboro VT. Music by Santa Croce, Cruise Night with Now and Then Vehicles Club Inc. Of Southern Vermont. Our Silent Auction will feature gift certificates from restaurants like The Marina and items like PartyLite candles and home decor. There will be plenty of blueberry baked goods, fresh picked local blueberries, blueberry ice cream, take home pies, a grand blueberry breakfast, BBQ burgers and dogs for lunch. Professional vendors will offer beautiful craft items including: jewelry, homemade chocolates, baby items, wood items, gift baskets, cloth items, and glass edge crafts.
